Site of the month. Italki.com
Maybe you have already heard about Italki.com. In case this is the first time you hear about this website, I'll tell you why I find this site so interesting.

I love languages. I'm a Spanish native speaker. I started learning French when I was around 10 years old. And my first approach to English language was when I was around 13. And the internet… simply… didn't exist! I had to go to the library to find English magazines, books, etc. I also used to buy that magazine called "Speak Up". (By the way, I think it's still alive and kicking!). It was very good.

But now, thanks to the internet, the way we learn/practice languages has changed. We can find a lot of good - free information. Nothing to do with the way languages were learned in the past. And here's where I can tell you about Italki.com. I found this site few years ago. I just wanted to find someone to practice English and, at the same time, help with my Spanish in exchange. But Italki is more than that. Here's the list of features available at Italki.com:

  • Language exchange. Just fill in your profile (You need to create an account (it's free)) and fill in your languages levels, including your native language, of course. From this point, you can contact people willing to learn-practice your language and, at the same time, you can find help to practice other languages you may have being learning. Italki.com's search feature is quite complete, so I guess you won't have any problem when you try to find a language partner.
  • If you prefer, you have the option to pay for language classes. In that case, you have two options: You can either contact a "professional teacher" or a "community tutor". Use the filters to narrow your search and finished! You can schedule a lesson with a teacher or tutor. You can even look for "instant tutoring" teachers / tutors, listed under this section (WInstant tutoring available now").
  • Apart from these two options, one thing a find very good and helpful is the possibility of practicing your writing, as native speakers will take a look at your writing and give you advise. You can also ask questions about the language you are learning.
  • Articles. Both professional teachers and community tutors write language learning related articles, very helpful, by the way!
Well, you can find some more features at Italki.com, but I consider the ones above very interesting. In fact, those are the ones I know and have tried.

No matter if you are an absolute beginner or if you are fluent in a second language, I find Italki.com a good and challenging way to learn / improve a language. So, feel free to visit Italki.com and let us know if you like it.
